Bespoke Framing Services
At Capstone Framing, nothing is too much of a challenge. Large or small, I frame everything from memorabilia, to oil paintings and all in between.
Types of Work Handled
-
Print Framing
From originals, such as linocuts, etchings and screen prints, to digital reproductions, giclee and more, I can advise on how to best mount and frame your print.
-
Photo Framing
Whether it’s old family photo’s or a sharp digital print, glossy or matte, I’ve got the right framing solutions as to how best present your photographic prints.
-
Framing Paintings
I handle and frame paintings from acrylics, oils and watercolours, whether they’re on board, canvas or paper. It doesn’t matter their condition, I can breathe new life into them and advise on best conservation methods.
-
Memorabilia Framing
There’s always a new challenge with memorabilia framing, and I’m always at the ready. Be it framing medals to programmes, gig tickets, golf balls and other sporting items, I’ve been there and done it.
-
Football Shirt Framing
It doesn’t end at football shirts. Any sports shirt, band T-shirt, shorts or any item of clothing for that matter, I can frame it for you, and do it with the utmost care and attention .
-
Poster Framing
I love receiving and framing a film poster, both old and new, as well as gig posters and any other type of poster print. Whatever it’s age, I can get it singing.
-
Cross-stitch and Textile Framing
Cross-stitches are a labour of love, and I treat them as such. I can stretch them using the lacing technique, and handle textile work by hand-stitching to a backing mat.
-
Canvas Stretching
Stretching a canvas over stretcher bars is the best method for framing paintings on raw canvas. I offer this as a service in conjunction with framing the finished result, be it in a tray or ‘floater’ frame, close framed, or with a slip.
-
Pastel Framing
Framing chalk pastels with a window mount requires cutting a ‘gutter mount’ for any loose pastel to drop behind. I never alter the artwork directly by spray fixing the pastel.
Types of Frame
-
Close Frame
A close frame is simply where the outer frame sits up to the edge of the artwork
-
Tray Frame
A tray frame is used with art work on either canvas or board. The gap between the frame edge and the work can vary. This type of frame gives a very sleek and minimal look.
-
Frame and Slip
The slip provides a little distance between the frame and artwork and can help lead the viewers eye into the frame. A slip is simply a frame within the outer frame but can have a more specific finish, such as linen.
-
Box Frame
A box frame is used where there is a requirement to keep the work to the back of the frame and away from the glass. It provides depth and a more sculptural quality.
-
Aluminium frame
The aluminium frame provides a clean minimal finish. If a structurally strong frame but discreet look is required, the aluminium is your go to option.
-
Profiled Frames
If you’re after something more traditional, I stock a range of more elaborate profiled wooden mouldings that I can hand paint or stain to a wide variety of finishes, be it clean or distressed in a broad colour range.
Mount Types
-
Window Mount
This is the most common form of mounting work. The window is usually cut to overlap the edges of the paper, but can be cut away from the paper edge if this is required to be seen.
-
Float Mount
Float mounting is a stylistic choice usually made if the work is printed on heavy paper with ‘deckled’ edges. the work is secured away from the back mat to give the impression that it is floating.
-
Gutter Mount
In this example of a gutter mount the window mount appears at the front of the frame, but the work is set further back within the frame. This is a consideration particularly when framing artwork with loose pastel.
